Currently (in Retroarch 1.4.1) trying to load a NEO GEO CHD file directly will crash Retroarch, it doesn’t matter if you have dummy files, correct bioses, hash files, etc. Proper for MESS (now MAME), the bios files should be placed in the same folder where are CHDs, if.

There is a supplementary file that is automatically installed to your Pi that will enable high score saving for more games, called hiscore.dat. This file is the same as that from (labeled ' old format hiscore.dat (pre mame v0174)'). It is located in: /home/pi/RetroPie/BIOS/fba/ When high scores are saved, they are kept in the current rom directory as gamename.hi files.

Most notably Nintendo 64 games are very hard to emulate and therefor most perform poorly on RetroPie. RetroPie also offers other emulators such as Nintendo DS. However these are still classed as ‘experimental’ and are not part of the default RetroPie Install.
Lr-fbalpha Please check [[FinalBurn-Alpha]] for for basic information about controls and managing ROMs - this page is for specific information about the lr-fbalpha emulator's features. Lr-fbalpha is a popular choice for the Raspberry Pi 2 and up, as it supports the latest FBA romset (v0.2.97.40), and a broad set of features. FBA also should always outperform MAME in the games they both support, as it is tailored for speed, rather than accuracy. Also, it is a libretro core, so enjoys all the benefits of that: centralised controller configurations, many customisation options, netplay, shader/overlay support, etc. System menu By default, if you hold the Start button for a few seconds, the system menu appears. Here you can set various game options, typically including 'Free Play' modes, regional settings, etc.
Mame2003 runs most of the neogeo games, though, but only from within its folder (/mame-libretro/). No trial and error needed. Arcade emulators require a specific romset.
NEO GEO AES is the home version of the arcades, in the console versions you can change difficulty, bind controls, change language, in some versus fighters you can switch to other characters between a fight and another, among other nice features, while the arcade version MVS, we can change somethings, but not as intuitively like in the console version. There are a variety of arcade emulators available in RetroPie which can emulate Neo Geo games. There are significant differences in performance, compatibility, and configuration between them. If you're getting started with arcade emulation, start by reading Arcade.
This page is a resource for additional details on configuring a dedicated set of Neo Geo ROMs including configuration paths, controls, and the ROM sets which each emulator requires.
Emulators: lr-fbalpha, lr-fbalpha2012, PiFBA, GnGeo-Pi
Refer to the main FB Alpha page for general information on all FBA emulators or the direct links above for in-depth infomation on lr-fbalpha, lr-fbalpha2012, or PiFBA. In-depth information on GnGeo-Pi can be found below, which is also linked directly above.
lr-fbalpha is the prefered Pi 3/Pi 2 Neo Geo emulator due to its accuracy. lr-fbalpha2012 is useful for any games that may be running slow in the latest version of lr-fbalpha for a Pi 3/Pi 2, and if used exclusively instead of lr-fbalpha will allow you to do full system updates without worrying about needing to update your ROM Set, but comes at the cost of inaccuracy such as games having minor audio issues across the entire library and other issues that have been fixed in the latest version of lr-fbalpha. PiFBA is recommended for those on a Pi 0 or Pi 1.

Neo Geo Bios Files For Retropie
As a caveat if you're using gngeopi, the ROMs you have must match the file in
gngeo_data.zip located at:
You can only play roms that have the same name as these .drv files, e.g.
mslug2.zip (rom) and mslug2.drv (data). If the names of these files don't match, GnGeo-Pi will crash. (see the list at the bottom of this page for compatible ROMs)
